The official spokesman of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, confirmed that, at 20:12 on 16th January, the Saudi Royal Air Defence Forces detected and intercepted a ballistic missile launched by Houthi militia from within the territory of Yemen towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He said that the missile was deliberately launched towards the city of Jazan to target civilian and populated areas.

Colonel Al-Maliki said that this hostile action by the Iran-backed Houthi armed militia proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the Houthi armed group with qualitative capabilities in a clear and blatant defiance of UN Security Council Resolutions 2216 and 2231, with the aim of threatening the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as regional and international security. He added that the launching of ballistic missiles towards populated cities and villages is a violation of international humanitarian law.

Colonel Al-Maliki renewed his call upon the international community to take more serious and effective steps to stop the blatant Iranian violations of the Resolutions by the continued smuggling of ballistic missiles and weapons to terrorist and outlaw groups, and to hold them accountable for their support and defiance of international norms and values.
