The official spokesman of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, confirmed that, at 7:56am on 5th January, the Coalition Air Defence Forces detected a ballistic missile launched from the Yemeni territories towards the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Colonel Al-Maliki said that the missile was deliberately launched towards the city of Najran to target civilian and populated areas. He added that the missile was intercepted by Saudi Patriot defence systems over Najran and that fragments of the missile caused minor damage to private property.

“This hostile action by the Iran-backed Houthi armed militia proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the Houthi armed group with qualitative capabilities in a clear and blatant defiance of UN Security Council Resolutions 2216 and 2231, aiming to threaten the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as regional and international security. Launching ballistic missiles towards populated cities and villages is a violation of international humanitarian law,” he added.

Colonel Al-Maliki renewed his call upon the international community to take more serious and effective steps to stop the blatant Iranian violations by the continued smuggling of ballistic missiles and weapons to terrorist and outlaw groups and to hold them accountable for their support and defiance of international norms and values.
